A romantic drama about the final years of 19th-century poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw), seen through the eyes of his lover, Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish), Jane Campion's acclaimed new film Bright Star was one of the highlights of this year's Cannes Film Festival. Campion, the Academy Award winning director (The Piano), drew from Keats's celebrated love letters to Brawne to create her original screenplay for this intense, visually spellbinding film, which is her first since In the Cut (2003). The screening will be followed by a Pinewood Dialogue with Campion moderated by Chief Curator David Schwartz. (2009, 119 mins. 35mm print courtesy of Apparition.)
