Alexander Dinelaris' Still Life is a smart examination of talented thirtysomethings stuck in neutral. Carrie Ann (Sarah Paulson), a photographer who inexplicably stops taking pictures, crosses paths with Jeremy (Frederick Weller) at her gallery show; he's a dispassionate but successful ad exec who's disturbed by the acceptance of death in her serene pictures of dead animals. A relationship develops but it's tested by outside forces that highlight the fragility of life. Dinelaris' dialogue is tightly constructed, exuding an effortless naturalism that is served well by Will Frears' fluid staging.
