Victorious Ones: Jain Images of Perfection is the Rubin Museum's newest exhibition and latest offering of Himalayan art and culture.
Jainism is an Indian faith dating from between the 6th and 5th century BCE. The exhibition is centered on images of the founding figures of Jainism, the Jinas, also known as the "Conquerors" or Tirthankaras. These important religious figures are so compassionate that, despite having achieved liberation from the world, choose to teach those on earth. Visitors to the exhibition will first see an enormous maze-like pilgrimage painting. Add this to the gorgeous stone sculptures and fantastic paintings depicting man's place in the universe and you just might leave you with a new outlook on the world.
