Having entertained Los Angeles audiences with their remarkable mix of masked Mexican wrestling, titillating striptease and sidesplitting comedy for seven consecutive years, Lucha VaVOOM is going to treat the rest of the nation to their delicious concoction. The vivacious spectacle is taking its crowd-pleasing combo of “sexo y violencia” on the road with scheduled stops in San Francisco, Anaheim and San Diego in August, before descending upon Chicago and New York, for a long-awaited Big Apple debut to take place at Webster Hall, September 20. Tickets for all shows are on sale now and available through Ticketmaster.
A much-talked about phenomenon, Lucha VaVOOM has uniquely united Lucha libre wrestling with scintillating retro burlesque dancing and cleverly injected riotous humor into the testosterone-filled matches. This winning marriage has scored raves from the likes of Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, The Los Angeles Times, and has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition; Jimmy Kimmel Live as well as Mun Dos, Current TV, Telemundo and A Current Affair.
An evening at Lucha VaVOOM is like nothing ever witnessed before. The night seamlessly alternates between highly skilled luchadores taking one another on, and burlesque beauties taking it off. It’s not hard to see why Rolling Stone exclaimed: "As spectacle, it's enough to make even the most jaded Hollywood insider jump and yell 'smackdown!' like he really means it."
Each city will cull together a different cast of characters to create a truly memorable and unique experience. The West Coast will bear witness to the menacing tag-team of Shamu, Jr. and the venomous goatsucker Chupacabra as they battle Leon de Oro and the almighty Fantastico. Not content to let the boys have all the fun, the fiery femme fatales the Poubelle Twins, will show them that they can play just as rough… and look better doing it. For their East Coast throwdowns, Lucha has assembled the finest they have to offer. Cross-dressing combater Cassandro will prove to his opponent why he is "Queen of the Ring" while crowd-favorites Los Crazy Chickens will squawk up a riot and let the feathers fly. The main event will be a black light blowout as Cuije and El Alebrije face off in a psychedelic showdown.
In between matches, astounding burlesque acts will dazzle and amaze. L.A. showstoppers Ursulina and Lux La Croix will transport you back into time as they shimmy and shake of eras past. NYC trapeze twins The Wau Wau Sisters will force your jaw to the floor with their brave-and-bawdy act, while international dance star and hula-hoop hot stuff Karis will mesmerize and confound in more ways than one.
The night's festivities will be hosted by comedian Blaine Capatch (Web Soup, Mad TV; Beat the Geeks) who will offer up hilarious play-by-play banter and guide the kaleidoscopic carnival of brawn, beauty and bizarre.
