New York City Center says…

Fall for Dance this year celebrates the centenary of Ballets Russes, the Paris-based Russians who made ballet artistically relevant. Reconstructions include Vaslav Nijinsky's Grecian frieze-frame Afternoon of A Faun and sister Bronoslava's sophisticated house party Les Biches (Gazelles); Mikhail Fokine’slovesick puppet Petrushka, a role synonymous with Nijinsky, is now transformed into a Basil Twist puppet show. Among the company's non-Russian collaborators was Maurice Ravel, and Batsheva Dance returns his Bolero to its origins as a dance piece. Meanwhile, Savion Glover's STaRz and STRiPes takes its name from the Balanchine ballet parodying his former troupe, while honoring another true classic — John Coltrane.
