For its first New York show, art gallery Hauser & Wirth pays tribute to former inhabitant Martha Jackson Gallery with reinventions of its 1961 exhibit of Allan Kaprow's climbable tires. Any fan of flashmobs, Newmindspace, or Improv Everywhere owes a debt to Kaprow — he invented the Happening — so we're fortunate to have a chance to ponder the roots of such movements. In William Pope.L's reinterpretation at the gallery, the playful original receives a morbid spin (body bags anyone?); Josiah McElheny and Sharon Hayes, meanwhile, display their takes in Queens and the East Village. There's also a podcast of interviews with Kaprow's friends and colleagues for download.
