Legendary avant-garde filmmaker Alain Resnais opens the NYFF's strongest lineup in years with Wild Grass, which beguiled critics at Cannes. Other highlights include Lars von Trier's Antichrist, the Danish director's foray into horror starring Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg as a couple struggling to deal with the loss of their child; Pedro Almodóvar's Broken Embraces, a romantic comedy with Penelope Cruz that veers into film noir; and Todd Solondz's coming-of-age tale Life During Wartime. Special events include a rare conversation with Almodóvar and a celebration of New York films that includes a screening of the acclaimed My Dinner with Andre (1981).
