Note:
After a summer break, host Thom Powers returns with his popular Stranger Than Fiction series. Powers, who programmed the documentary slate at the Toronto International Film Festival, brings a few favorites back to launch STF's fall season. Tonight's opening film follows Brooklyn native Ruth Gruber, who, at 20, became the world's youngest PhD holder in 1931, and whose photojournalism chronicles some of the seminal events of the last century. Now 97, she shares her remarkable tales and images, including those from the Nuremberg trials and the beleaguered Jewish refugee experience after WWII.
