After a slew of hits off-Broadway, playwright Kenneth Lonergan launched his film career as a writer/director with the well-observed indie flick You Can Count on Me (2000), and went on to pen others including Gangs of New York (2002). Tonight, he talks about his return to the New York stage after nearly a decade with his old pal Matthew Broderick, star of The Starry Messenger (set to begin previews in late October). Expect a couple stories of childhood mischief à la Ferris Bueller to work their way into the conversation.

92nd Street Y (92Y) says…

Actor Matthew Broderick has had an illustrious film career with starring roles in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Godzilla, Glory and War Games. He also played Leo Bloom in the film and Broadway productions of The Producers. This fall Broderick stars in The New Group's premiere production of The Starry Messenger, by his childhood friend Kenneth Lonergan, the author of This Is Our Youth, Lobby Hero and You Can Count on Me. Broderick and Lonergan reflect on their parallel careers and their first stage collaboration.
