The Metropolitan Museum of Art says…

The Met’s Director Thomas P. Campbell narrates this audio tour of the exhibition Vermeer’s Masterpiece The Milkmaid, with commentary from exhibition curator Walter Liedtke and conservator Dorothy Mahon. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s historic voyage to Manhattan from Amsterdam, that city’s Rijksmuseum has sent The Milkmaid, perhaps the most admired painting by the Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer (1632–1675), to the Met. The audio tour discusses many of the themes in Vermeer’s work, reveals the latest conservation efforts, and brings you closer to understanding what makes this artist so unique.

The Audio Guide is available for daily rental at the Met (usually $7.00). Rent one and listen to all Audio Guide commentaries, in addition to Met Podcast episodes.
