Fred Hersch has an unusually light touch. His hands glide across the keys with precision, crafting original pieces that are well-constructed yet leave room for the spark of discovery and interplay with his excellent trio. This week, he's supported by veteran bassist/composer Drew Gress and legendary drummer Paul Motian, better known for his extensive work as a bandleader and his integral contributions to Bill Evans' trio. With this level of talent on board, Hersch has the freedom to explore the many genres that fascinate him, including the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim — the bossa nova composer to whom Hersch devoted his latest solo album.
