The stakes are high in Puccini's Turandot as a cold-hearted princess (world renowned opera singer Maria Guleghina) subjects her suitors to a series of riddles to win her love or to die trying. Those who fail are publicly executed, but the grisly end doesn't deter many from trying. Franco Zeffirelli's lavish, lushly scored production is a throwback to the Met shows of yore when everything was covered in gold.
