Companion adds a dose of archive to a contemporary-art exhibition by pairing new works with the objects or images upon which they're based. The EFA Project Space group show is curated by Marisa Jahn for REV-, a new nonprofit collaborative aiming to shake up the contemporary arts scene. Jahn has brought together a diverse group of multimedia artists like Pablo Helguera, who remakes a 1950s television show for the YouTube generation, and Cui Fei, an installation artist whose hatch-marked assemblage demarcates the passage of time during the Sino-Japanese War.

    I had the opportunity to go to the Companion opening. Bravo to Jahn. Her curatorial work repositions socially engaged art and leverages dialogues because of this thoughtful placement. I look forward to seeing more work from Jahn and REV. -Jovel artist
