Joe's Pub says…

Kristina Train's powerful voice is leaving audiences amazed.  Often compared to the likes of Allison Krauss, Dusty Springfield, and Bonnie Raitt, the Savannah, Georgia native is making a name for herself with deep, expressive vocals and fiddle in hand.  Her soulful singing complements her catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics.  Drawing inspiration from her idol, Aretha Franklin, Train's bluesy vibrato alternates between gentle ballads and powerful belting as she sings with mature intensity and an awareness of her southern roots.

Sophie Madeleine’s debut album Love.Life.Ukulele  is a rare charm – steeped in timeless talent, its honest lyrics are backed by an understated arrangement with a contemporary twist.

The ukulele has a comparatively recent role in the creative process.  Sophie picked up the instrument last year, and uses it sporadically throughout the album.  In a recent interview for Ukulele Hunt, Sophie talked about the appeal of the ukulele in the song-writing process:

‘I love its tone and its simplicity. It makes such a happy little sound. I found that I always ended up falling into the same patterns on a guitar when writing, so I tried to write on a uke and started coming up with a completely different style of song.’

But the success story-so-far of multi-instrumentalist Sophie Madeleine goes far beyond ukuleles and the dainty image we’re presented with on her album cover.   Utilising modern marketing and viral video, in the past few months, Love.Life.Ukulele has taken on the Internet – gaining fans and plethoric praise in its victorious path.
