The Hayden Planetarium is utterly transformed for Haydn's cosmic opera Il Mondo Della Luna (The World on the Moon). Put on by the excellent Gotham Chamber Opera, this tale about a nobleman who refuses to let his daughters marry (on Earth at least) features festive costumes by Anka Lupes and Diane Paulus' stellar direction. After her well-received Central Park presentation of Hair, Paulus makes the most of the planetarium's laser technology for a truly mind-blowing opera experience. For fans of Deitch's hyper-color style, hula-hoopers Bec Stupak and Malcolm Stuart also join the ensemble.
