Each year, hotINK scours the world to put forth powerful new plays, and this year rounds up promising works from Uganda, Romania, Japan, Russia, Austria, France, Canada, and the US. This festival’s Tisch home provides a high-profile launching pad that frequently leads to full-on productions at top-tier performing arts spaces. Highlights include The Get-Together, in which Ireland’s Mark Cantan dreams up a dark family dinner, and Appointment with gOD, with Uganda’s Deborah Asiimwe constructing a post-9/11 visit to US Embassy. A host of American playwrights, meanwhile, tackle topics from celebrity journalists to circle jerks and Canadian contributions trot out everything from a contemporary Aeneas to Afro-Cuban antics.
