Playwrights Horizons says…

Bruce Norris' darkly comedic riff on A Raisin in the Sun explores the racial tensions in a Chicago neighborhood on the cusp of desegregation in 1959 and gentrification in 2009. The fast-paced dialogue, laced with sly wit and politically incorrect jokes, moves the plot forward to its chilling conclusion. The ensemble cast is stellar, particularly Annie Parisse, who transforms from a deaf housewife in one act to a new-age hippie at the center of a debate about culture and community in the other. Pam MacKinnon's experience directing Albee proves useful in navigating this complex terrain and results in one of the season's most interesting plays.
