Soundcheck's John Schaefer hosts this full-day celebration of the great baroque composer featuring virtuoso lutenist Paul O'Dette, a longtime scholar and professor at the Eastman School of Music and co-curator of the program. The day is broken into two three-hour blocks with the first featuring an orchestral suite performed by the Brazilian Guitar Quartet and the second a world premiere of Gyan Riley's Stream of Gratitude, inspired by Bach's Suite for Lute in C Minor. The percussive quality of the guitar enlivens Bach's intricately complicated melodies making the fest an inspired departure from the normal chamber and orchestra presentation while providing an accessible introduction for the classically curious.
