The Public Theater says…

The Public Theatre's ambitious and acclaimed Under the Radar Festival brings performance and theater artists from around the world to Astor Place for a fortnight of absolutely new productions and related conversations designed to make the world a little smaller and your horizons that much broader. The topsy-turvy schedule and scattering of venues can be a little daunting, with offerings spanning the spectrum from music to storytelling, movement arts, and multimedia installation. But one sure highlight is the celebrated production, The Word Begins, a collaboration of actor/poet/provocateurs Steve Connell and Sekou (tha Misfit). Fixtures on the vibrant LA spoken word scene, where this attention-getting dialectic was refined, the men are known separately and in tandem for their hypnotic, seductive, emotionally charged, and ferociously honest deconstructions of race, class, and gender politics.
