Tanya Bonakdar Gallery says…

Jeffrey Vallance is an artist of all trades, whose prolific work often results in sculptural assemblages, installations, and conceptually based series, the true purpose of which is to catalog and sort the artifacts of his performative exploits. His Relics & Reliquaries project, for example, employs the precious craftsmanship of altarpiece display in the service of a disarmingly unironic collection of absolutely mundane artifacts — from tourist-trap wares to the tire-flattening nail of a road trip's demise. Mark Dion's work, meanwhile, also constitutes a quasi-archaeological travelogue, in which ordinary objects from nature and industry are collected and organized with an eye toward deconstructing institutional formalities. Dion curates a group show of related work in the gallery's project room.
