Few organizations today can boast of once having Ezra Pound and W.B. Yeats in attendance, but the Poetry Society of America (PSA) is the country's oldest, and arguably most revered, poetry organization. To celebrate its centennial, it's throwing four regional events that also mark the publication of a book, The Poets Laureate Anthology. Here in New York City, where the society was originally founded, expect readings from some of the genre's most decorated heavy-hitters, including Poet Laureate Billy Collins, and Pulitzer Prize winners Rita Dove and Charles Simic. Also on the schedule: Broadway veteran Maria Tucci delivers a dramatic monologue and ex-10,000 Maniacs singer Natalie Merchant performs.

The Great Hall at Cooper Union says…

Our U.S. Poets Laureate read their own poems and poems by their predecessors at the famous hall, in honor of the anniversary of the first meeting of the Poetry Society of America in October, 1910, and the publication of The Poets Laureate Anthology, edited by Elizabeth Hun Schmidt. The actress Maria Tucci will also perform Robert Frost's dramatic monologue "A Servant to Servants," and musician Natalie Merchant will perform selections from her new album, "Leave Your Sleep."
