“Philosophical playwright Wallace Shawn isn't afraid of grappling with difficult questions of social conscience on stage in his many plays including the blackly comic tale of fascism, Aunt Dan and Lemon. Tonight, he sits down to share his thoughts with Anthony Arnove, co-editor of Voices of a People's History of the United States, a companion to Howard Zinn's popular historical muckraking annal that utilizes first person sources. Recently, he made a convincing case for ending the war in Iraq: The Logic of Withdrawl. Shawn's and Arnove outspoken natures should make for a stimulating talk tonight.”
Obie-winning playwright and actor Wallace Shawn shares his thoughts on creativity, controversy and the writing life, with editor and activist Anthony Arnove. Shawn's plays The Designated Mourner and The Fever have recently been produced as films and his translation of Threepenny Opera was performed on Broadway. He is co-author of My Dinner with Andre and the author of The Fever and Aunt Dan and Lemon, among other works. Arnove is the editor, with Howard Zinn, of Voices of a People's History of the United States, which was recently made into a documentary film, The People Speak.![]()
