Playwright Charles Mee, a frequent collaborator with Anne Bogart/SITI Company and Martha Clarke, has penned a loving send-up of French culture. A never-ending stream of cigarettes, red wine, and romantic encounters, Fêtes de la Nuit is an over-the-top spectacle that makes you want to hop on the next plane to Paris — or at least curl up in a café with a glass of wine while Edith Piaf croons in the background. This production features several deaf actors speaking in sign language, adding an unexpected layer to a sensual staging that is already fluent in movement and dance.
