Emilio Perez' particular method of generating entirely abstract compositions through layering acrylic and latex pigments on wood, and then distressing the surface with topographical incisions, creates images so explosive, evocative, and dense with detail and emotion as to flirt with narrative (the titles help). However the best way to describe them is still metaphorical: they are like expanses of ocean waves at night; they are like storms gathering over a sleeping city; they are like the brilliant flashes surrounding an eclipse; they are a diary of half-grasped dreams. In the end, they are something different for each viewer, but always something unforgettable.
