Cape Town-based Pan-African publication Chimurenga hosts an evening of discussions in celebration of the Everyone Has Their Indian issue, an examination of Third Worldism in the 21st century between the African and Asian diasporas. Organized by Chimurenga Contributing Editor Sean Jacobs, the program will feature a conversation between Vijay Prashad (Trinity College), author of the books The Karma of Brown Folk and Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting, and Binyavanga Wainaina, Director of the Chinua Achebe Center for African Writers and Artists(Bard College). Also featuring music by Lee Ursus Alexander and other special guest readers and performers
Founded and edited by writer and DJ Ntone Edjabe in 2002, Chimurenga, (loosely translated as “liberation struggle”) publishes tri-yearly print projects, giving voice to the renegade spirit in a series of “thinking out loud” profiles, deconstructed and imagined interviews, surreal short stories, poetry, and other forms that challenge strict notions of fact and fiction.
