This bill of two generations of great Irish writers pairs the philosophically inclined John Banville with the adventurous Colum McCann, whose latest novel, Let the Great World Spin, features 11 separate protagonists from all walks of NYC life — and was recently optioned by Lost creator JJ Abrams. Banville's just-released The Infinities began as an adaptation of a play by Heinrich von Kleist, but quickly took on a life of its own as the author wrestled with questions of mortality. This promises to be one of the highlights of the Poetry Center's season.

92nd Street Y (92Y) says…

"With his fastidious wit and exquisite style, John Banville is the heir to Nabokov," wrote The Sunday Telegraph. Banville’s last novel, The Sea, won the Booker Prize in 2005. His new novel is The Infinities. "Leave it to an Irishman to write one of the greatest-ever novels about New York," wrote Dave Eggers of Colum McCann's Let the Great World Spin. It's "a gorgeous book, multilayered and deeply felt, and it's a damned lot of fun to read, too."
