Rubin Museum of Art says…

Writer, performance artist, and Tibet activist Canyon Sam speaks on her first book, Sky Train, at the Rubin. Sky Train recounts Sam's journey to Tibet in 2007 where she traveled on China's new "Sky Train," celebrated Tibetan New Year with the Lhasa family she'd befriended decades earlier and concluded an oral-history project with women elders. Sam will speak on the stories she uncovered of Tibetan women's courage, resourcefulness, and spiritual strength in the face of loss and hardship since the Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1950 and comment on the changes wrought by the controversial new rail line in the futuristic "new Lhasa."
