Note:
A reception follows the reading.
CEC Arts and Brooklyn-based Ugly Duckling Presse host a literary salon celebrating new poetry published by Moscovite Elena Fanailova and Saint Petersburger Marina Temkina. Fanailova's The Russian Version is her first English translation, which expounds on the influence of her work as a journalist on her poetry. Longtime New York resident Temkina's What Do You Want? is her first book written in English, and an ongoing exploration of her émigré identity and Jewish heritage. Additionally, Michael Scammell, Professor of Creative Writing and Translation at Columbia University, holds a Q&A expected to cover literary life and freedom in post-Soviet Russia, the worldwide economic downturn's effect on Russia, and the current state of Russian-American relations.
