New York City Center says…

Bill Cain's fascinating new play gives us a glimpse into the day-to-day lives of Shakespeare and his acting company, the King's Men. At the start, the bard is commissioned — or commanded, to be more accurate — to write a play about an assassination attempt known as the Gunpowder Plot. Cain weaves in the history of Henry VIII and Catholic suppression, touching on the issue of torture as well as the private life of the great playwright as he struggles with the cost of writing the truth. It's a rare treat in the theater to be entertained while feeling like you're learning a lot as well.
