Vetiver and its leader Andy Cabic are at the center of the new American folk scene. Cabic began recruiting friends in SF, including Devendra Banhart, Colm O'Ciosoig (My Bloody Valentine), Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) and Joanna Newsom to record Vetiver's self titled debut for the indie folk label Dicristina Stair Builders in 2004. Vetiver has since gone on to release three more full-length albums, 2006’s To Find Me Gone also on Dicristina, Thing of the Past on Gnomonsong Recordings (2008) and Tight Knit (2009), their first on Sub Pop.
Scout Niblett's latest album The Calcination of Scout Niblett ( Drag City, 2010), a heavy handful of songs that are reaching for the ripe and the light, continues her fruitful collaboration with legendary producer Steve Albini.
Arp is the solo project of Alexis Georgopoulos, whose minimalist sound creations combined analogue synths and classical strings. He has been presented at PS1, Deitch Projects, MOMA (SF), 303 Gallery, New Langton Arts and the Yerba Buena Center, has released work on DFA (among other labels), and has been remixed by Hot Chip and Soft Pink Truth.
