Always unruly, always virtuosic, Yoshiko Chuma together with lighting designer Rie Ono, choreographer Ursula Eagly, and choreographer Jon Kinzel (who last appeared with The School of Hard Knocks in The Living Room Project in 1998), addresses the glorious space of Buttenwieser Hall. Using a combination of text, movement and media in a live installation, the new work confronts personal and public histories of The School of Hard Knocks and its experiences in East Central Europe since 1985.
This performance is part of the Performing Revolution in Central and Eastern Europe, a performing arts festival marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe, presented by the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in partnership with key New York City cultural organizations and academic institutions, November 2009—March 2010. www.performingrevolution.org
