Award-winning documentary filmmaker David Grubin premieres his new film for PBS, The Buddha. Narrated by Richard Gere, this two-hour biography of the Buddha scheduled to air April 7, 2010 was produced in conjunction with Asia Society's exhibition Pilgrimage and Buddhist Art. Resonating with many of the artworks on display, the film explores the spiritual and physical journeys of Prince Siddhartha and features interviews with the Dalai Lama and prominent Buddhists including the poets W.S. Merwin and Jane Hirshfield; scholar Robert Thurman; psychiatrist Mark Epstein; and astrophysicist Trinh Xuan Thuan. David Grubin leads a post-screening discussion. Reception follows.
