A night at the opera turns into a hellishly chaotic evening in Ken Ludwig's door-slamming farce Lend Me a Tenor, receiving a lively and joyous revival in the hands of actor-turned-director Stanley Tucci. Anthony LaPaglia steals the show as a boozy, womanizing opera divo. But Justin Bartha (best known as the missing soon-to-be groom in The Hangover) holds his own as a fledgling tenor yearning to prove his love to his nubile fiancee — who happens to be the daughter of the opera's general manager, played with overripe enthusiasm by Tony Shalhoub. What the play lacks in subtleties, it more than makes up for in belly laughs that grow exponentially during the second act.

Music Box Theatre says…

Music Box Theater says:

It’s September 8th, 1934, and Cleveland's premiere opera producer is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. The tickets are sold, the stage is set, and the thirty-piece orchestra is ready. But, it's about to become un disastro gigantesco, because it’s three minutes to curtain, and the leading man - the greatest tenor in the world - has gone missing! The starry revival of Ken Ludwig's LEND ME A TENOR features a first-class line up: ANTHONY LaPAGLIA (Without A Trace), TONY SHALHOUB (Monk), JUSTIN BARTHA (The Hangover) and a top-notch supporting cast, all staged by actor/director STANLEY TUCCI (Julie & Julia). Don’t miss these hilarious hijinks of operatic proportions.
