It's been nearly two decades since Sami Frey so thoroughly incarnated that Theatre of Cruelty firebrand, Antonin Artaud. Now, he lends his sonorous voice to Beckett's francophone prose in this production of his short. The existential tale explores the relationship between a fille de joie and Frey's musing transient. It should be a mesmerizing performance by an actor who, once upon a time, wondered "if the world is a dream or a dream the world."

FIAF says:

Celebrated French actor Sami Frey presents Premier Amour, a short story by renowned Irish avant-garde writer Samuel Beckett. Originally written in French in 1946, Premier Amour tells the story of a soulless narrator, discovered by a prostitute on a park bench after becoming homeless. The emotional tale delves into the cruel and sexual relationship that unfolds after this encounter.

Acclaimed by audiences in Paris, Frey’s expressive self-directed performance prompted Le Monde to observe that “Between Sami Frey and Samuel Beckett the link is quite obvious.”
