“John Leguizamo's made no secret about his troubled life. In fact, he made a semi-autobiographical one-man show about it called Freak that debuted on Broadway. Spike Lee was so taken with it, he turned it into a film. Since then, the man named "Most Talkative" in high school has gone on to perform in Moulin Rouge, Ice Age (and its sequels), and on the television show ER, where he played an emotionally disturbed doctor. With such a variety and breadth of accomplishments, it's no wonder the roster of those coming out to celebrate him reads like a mixtape of his life itself.”
An evening to honor John Leguizamo for his significant contributions to the world of performance and his rich history with Performance Space 122. With emcees: Carmelita Tropicana & Marga Gomez; special guests Hazell Goodman, Lenny Kaye, Spike Lee, Rosie Perez, The Wau Wau Sisters, and John Turturro; video performance & presentation by Eric Bogosian, DJs Andrew Andrew & The Vintage DJ; Shining Star Award recipient: The Friedman Foundation; and special appearance at the pres-show reception by: Jody Oberfelder's Crash Helmet Brigade.
