What do 18 of the most intriguing emerging artists and magpies have in common? They are all famously attracted to shiny things, of course, and who isn't? The science behind the split-second attraction to reflective metals is well-documented physiologically, and now this spirited take on the summer group show brings eye-catching peripheral seduction off the sidewalk, beach, and storefront — and into the gallery for a group show that is unabashedly vying for your easily-distracted attention.

Monya Rowe Gallery says:

Monya Rowe Gallery is very pleased to announce a group exhibition organized by Patrick Brennan titled Metallika. Metallika brings together the work of 18 artists. The exhibition investigates the use of metallics as a reflective surface and as a metaphor for resembling metal. Gold, silver, faux metallics, and mirrors… I find it interesting that these reflective objects are both endearing and eye catching yet can be repulsive and tacky. It really depends how it’s presented. Through the use of the reflective media the artist is able to activate ideas of mirroring - light, sound or imagery can be reflected. With this in mind, each artist created a specific work for the space. The gallery will be transformed into a brilliant lustrous haunt.
