“By the end of summer, the Ohio Theatre will pass into history and become prime downtown retail space. Before that happens, Clubbed Thumb uses the performing space to present its 15th Summerworks festival of new works. All three plays concern small ideas that turn out being rather complex — just like real life. Kate E. Ryan's Dot depicts how adults view the budding friendship of a reclusive senior citizen and a young girl. A pregnant widow attempts to finish her dead husband's book, with or without the help of her in-laws, in Samuel D. Hunter's Five Genocides. And in Anne Washburn's The Small, a troubled man's dreams collide with the orderliness of a natural food mart.”
Clubbed Thumb says:
Every June we present, Summerworks, our annual festival of new plays and our cornerstone programming. The festival opens with a night of thematically linked short pieces, and features three fully rehearsed, fully mounted new plays that each run for a week.
