In the grand tradition of misleading band names (the Pop Group, the Clean), the Death Set's handle suggests Satanic verses and Cookie Monster vocals. But this Baltimore duo actually makes good-time electro-punk. Fans of the Go! Team and Dan Deacon should love the group's Ninja Tune debut, Worldwide, an overstimulated collection of gang-shouted anthems, spazzy guitars, and loopy Bis-inspired synths. Onstage, the Death Set display the kind of energy usually associated with post-hardcore kids; but, as the pent-up signature cut "Negative Thinking" demonstrates, a caffeine-and-sugar diet usually works best with a healthy slice of twee.

Note:

This is technically a Knifefight party, so be prepared for some crazy kids, crazier dancing, and maybe some tattooing (oh, yeah!).

Australia to Baltimore transplants The Death Set are a faster, poppier, punker and more straight forward Devo for 21st attention spans. Their debut Ep “to” is the giddiest wall bouncing sugar over dose that’s come my way in some time – going down like a mix of three balloons full of nitrous and three more o’ helium. Sticky speedy spazzy songs defined by tuneful high-pitched screaming distorted guitars and casios blasting over rigid mechanical beats. It’ll make you jump up and down and pound your head against the wall – New York Night Train

"Has the maximum-impact intensity of the young Henry Rollins in Black Flag or like an Iggy Pop for the era of samples and laptops. Worldwide is an extraordinary offering. The Death Set are a quixotic, perfect pop thrill." The Guardian

“They make the Libertines look like Dire Straits... Original, entertaining and fun.” Vice

That is some kick-ass spazcore for lack of a better term – Gimme Tinnitus

Part AUSTRALIAN, but now living in BALTIMORE, THE DEATH SET, call everyone from DAN DEACON to MATT & KIM to SPANK ROCK to BONDE DO ROLE contemporaries. They are the second coming. – I Heart Comix
