Lincoln Center says…

Toneelgroep Amsterdam
Director Ivo van Hove

“The whole is infused with a trance-like atmosphere, an otherworldly chill that makes the inevitable implosion all the more shocking.” —Financial Times (London) on Teorema

Director Ivo van Hove stages one of the most provocative stories ever written by Pier Paolo Pasolini, the avant-garde Italian novelist and filmmaker. A mysterious stranger calls upon a wealthy businessman and his family, moves in, and proceeds to seduce every person in the household, unlocking their hidden desires. But who is the stranger? His abrupt departure wreaks havoc on everyone, leaving them filled with a desire to fill their newfound void.

This production of Teorema is based after Pasolini's novel and film, in which dialogue is scarce but powerful. Leading the world-renowned theater troupe Toneelgroep Amsterdam, van Hove brings this experience to a non-traditional space on Governors Island, featuring music by Beethoven, Webern, and Eric Sleichim, performed live by Bl!ndman [new strings].

Performed in Dutch with English supertitles.

Tickets for this performance include ferry transportation to Governors Island.
