As if city living weren't batty enough, the American Museum of Natural History is taking to Central Park in search of the fabled night stalkers that swoop over Turtle Pond and the Ramble. When the sun goes down, urban bats leave warm spaces under city roofs to dine on flying insects, and the park becomes headquarters for the folks in the New York City Bat Group. Join members Bradley Klein and Danielle Gustafson on one of three Friday evening walks in July. With a detector that amplifies bat chirps, they seek out species including big brown bats, little brown bats, eastern red bats, northern long-eared bats, and silver-haired bats. Holy American Museum of Natural History!

AMNH says:

At dusk, bats leave the warm spaces under city roofs to feed on flying insects. Join Brad Klein, Danielle Gustafson, and other members of the New York City Bat Group for a walk through Central Park. Aided by a detector that amplifies bats’ high frequency chirps, bat watchers monitor and catalogue the species that call New York home. Please note that you must register at least one week in advance.
