If you want to be fully prepared come Oscar-pool time, we recommend checking out DocuWeek's smorgasbord of non-fiction fare. Now in its 14th year, this edition of the IDA-curated Academy Award-qualifying program features 22 films with each film receiving a week run over the course of the three-week series. Subject matter runs the gamut, but among those to watch are SXSW Audience Award Winner For Once in My Life, an inspirational story about a band of musicians overcoming personal limitations; Carter Gunn's Colony about the strife of the beekeeping community and its broader implications; and the Michael Apted Up Series-like film My Perestroika, which focuses on five 40-somethings coping with present-day Russia after growing up behind the Iron Curtain.

IFC Center says…

DocuWeeks says:

A moving history of one of the most harrowing and inspirational chapters of the Civil Rights movement, a behind the scenes look at the 1,400-year-old conflict between Islam and Christianity, an investigation of the unexplainable phenomenon of Colony Collapse Disorder, and a mash-up of "Glee" and "High School Musical" are all part of the wide-ranging lineup of twenty-two films in IDA’s 14th Annual DocuWeeks™ Theatrical Documentary Showcase. Films screen a full week in both Los Angeles and New York City between July 30th and August 19th.
