The most stunning and accessible work in Rivette's Les Filles du Feu (Girls of Fire) series of films: A battle between goddesses of the sun and moon (Juliet Berto and Bulle Ogier) who travel across time to an idealized Paris that is reminiscent of Lang noirs, Hawks comedies and most of all, Twin Peaks mysteries. This first collaboration between Lubtchansky and Rivette is one of the greatest color fantasies in contemporary cinema and a peak point for both filmmakers, yet has only screened in New York in faded-to-pink prints in recent years. To remedy this situation, we'll be screening this unsubtitled imported print with soft titles.
