For Jacques Rivette, life and directing are games. When he couldn't find funding for a 35mm film in this period (his comeback after his post-Les Filles du Feu nervous breakdown), he took to the streets with Lubtchansky, stalwart Bulle Ogier and her daughter Pascale Ogier to create this low-budget 16mm masterpiece that transforms desolate areas of Paris into a fantasyland, into a living labyrinth in which city streets are like "shoots and ladders". The Ogiers are strangers who meet and then dart around Paris trying to solve a mystery after discovering a map left in a briefcase by Pierre Clémenti. It's part of the series The Romantic Gaze of William Lubtchansky.
