“After reopening McCarren Park Pool for her site-specific Agora in 2005, choreographing Feist's "1,2,3,4" video, and scaring the sh*t out of some staunchly square VF writer in Williamsburg (remember that?!), Noemie Lafrance returns with MELT. This time around, dancers are covered with beeswax and lanolin, perched on chairs affixed to a high wall. As they perform, their costumes slowly melt away under the lights, offering a beautiful meditation on ephemera and perhaps, Icarus.”
Seven dancers perched on a wall and wrapped in sculptural beeswax and lanolin costumes are slowly melting away, progressing in euphoria and exhaustion as if approaching the sun, melting until their souls escape their ephemeral bodies and disintegrate into light.
