One of our very favorite Canadians (and at the top of our list of Twitter personalities, as well), Margaret Atwood opens the 72nd season of the Poetry Center at the 92Y. Tonight, she reads from last year's The Year of the Flood, a continuation of 2003's acclaimed Oryx and Crake. An excitingly original meditation on the environment — and scientific and man-made impacts on it — The Year of the Flood is a wild journey through a dystopian world that could be terrifyingly close to our own.

92nd Street Y (92Y) says…

Introduced by Valerie Martin Opening our 72nd season, Margaret Atwood returns to the Poetry Center to read from The Year of the Flood, her most recent novel. In this work of speculative fiction, Margaret Atwood shows "us ourselves, but the mirror she holds up to life does more than reflect," wrote Jeanette Winterson. "It's like one of those mirrors made with mercury that gives us both a deepening and a distorting effect, allowing both the depths of human nature and its potential mutations. . . . The Year of the Flood isn’t prophecy, but it is eerily possible."
