“Recently widowed, Grethe is simultaneously helping her gay son and his partner adjust to their newly adopted foster daughter and reconnecting with a kind suitor she had given up decades before. Cody Daigle's beautifully rendered play, A Home Across the Ocean, portrays an intense time of emotional upheaval in the life of a thoroughly relatable, non-traditional family. The uniformly excellent cast brings out the emotion in the tale without being maudlin, especially Alex Bond as Grethe and Mark Emerson as Daniel, her son's patient, giving boyfriend. Reflecting on grief and new beginnings, the show is a quietly powerful triumph.”
Connor and his boyfriend think they're ready to start a family; Connor's recently widowed mother thinks she needs to re-start a family herself. When a thirteen-year-old foster child and a poet from London arrive into their lives, they'll find out exactly how ready they are.
