By the early 1950s, for the first time in its history, the global contemporary art spotlight shined most brightly on the United States. This course outlines the story of contemporary art from those days to the present, including major movements in the United States and around the world, such as Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Minimal Art, Conceptual Art, Arte Povera, Figurative Expressionism, social and political Art. The class will also examine definitions of particular art movements, key works by artists and relations between works of art and their times.
