Milo, a Serbian astrophysicist who escaped the Balkan war by moving to Japan to teach English, is refusing to leave his pre-fab capsule home in a Tokyo skyscraper although the tower is scheduled for demolition tomorrow morning. Thaddeus Phillips' one-man show, Capsule 33, encompasses globalization, toy rubber ducks, and the somewhat unknown revolutionary history of Nikola Tesla. Something of a mad scientist himself, Phillips' show is endlessly inventive, funny, original, and thoroughly entertaining. The performance is powered by an off-grid generator — the audience is encouraged to help power the show beforehand by using a foot pump.

Barrow Street Theater says…

The famed Nakagin Capsule Tower is about to be imploded. Resident of Capsule #33, Milo Dukanovic, and his rubber ducky, Fumio, refuse to leave. See them in their last day in a visually stunning, charming and funny new work from theatrical innovator, Thaddeus Phillips. CAPSULE 33 is set inside a transforming replica of a Japanese capsule living pod, and explores the ideas of Nikola Tesla, micro-architecture, recycled classical texts - and the possibilities of the future. Audience powered foot pumps provide the energy to run the lights, and the sound comes from smashed iphones.
