Despite Lincoln Center's construction and recent staff changes at the Film Society, there's one thing that continues to run like clockwork, the New York Film Festival. Like its predecessors, the 48th edition's slate includes festival vets and a smattering of new faces. Opening the festivities is David Fincher's big-budget Hollywood film about the founding of Facebook, The Social Network. From there, the films range from Xavier Beauvois' 2010 Cannes Grand Prix-winner, Of Gods and Men, about the kidnapping and murder of seven Trappist Monks in 1996 Algeria, to celebrated Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo's Oki's Movie, an unconventionally structured comedy about a girl who makes a film about two men she's dated. Also of note, British filmmaker Mike Leigh (Secrets and Lies) presents his latest film, Another Year, and participates in an HBO Director's Dialogue, and famed documentarian Frederick Wiseman's Boxing Gym appears in the festival sidebar.
