Get a decidedly fresh take on F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic tonight with members of esteemed NYC experimental theatre troupe Elevator Repair Service. The company is getting set to open its six-hour, dead-letter-perfect staging of The Great Gatsby, entitled Gatz, at the Public next week. If you're not up for such a marathon performance — or want to learn more about the massive undertaking — tonight's selective reading and discussion should be just the thing. The Public's Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis, introduces the reading.

92nd Street Y (92Y) says…

Just before the New York premiere of their word–for–word performance of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel, members of Elevator Repair Service—actor Scott Shepherd and director John Collins—visit the Poetry Center to read from the work and discuss the adaptation, which New York Times critic Ben Brantley called "one of the most exciting and improbable accomplishments in theater in recent years." The event is introduced by Oskar Eustis, artistic director of the Public Theater, where Gatz premieres in September.
